The Birth of London Bike Swarm
Inspired by our sisters and brothers at Portland Bike Swarm in the US, London Bike Swarm was born to support activism and the Occupy movement in London, UK.
From "The Bike Swarm: The Cavalry of the Occupy Movement":
"On a cold November night in Portland, Oregon, as police in riot gear attempted to evacuate the Occupy campers from a downtown park, a contingent of about fifty bike riders took to the streets. Circling the blocks, slowing car traffic, riding around and around, ringing their bells, they were an important part of the struggle.The cyclists aimed to serve as a barrier between the police and the protestors and prove that the streets are for the 99%."
We are bicycle-riders, we are Londoners and we want a future with fairer economic structure for all. We commit to non-violence and we will swarm with a smile and protect our fellow protestors.
We are the 99% and these are our streets.
